. welcome to "america live," everyone, i'm megyn kelly. we've got blizzard warnings in effect for much of the midwest today, strong winds leading to tens of thousands of power outages in arkansas, iowa and nebraska as the to bees also plummet -- temperatures also plummet. all that wind and snow making it nearly impossible to drive. folks are being warned to stay off the roads as we get reports of several traffic-related deaths. and now the list of flight delays and cancellations is growing leaving some folks stranded in places like the eastern iowa airport, and they are not the only ones suffering. further south in alabama close to 20,000 customers are without power after fierce thunderstorms there tore across the state. ripping roofs off of homes, downing trees and leaving debris scattered all over the place. our chief meteorologist, rick reichmuth, live with more. >> reporter: there's a very snowy side to this, there's a severe side to this, and we're also dealing with a series of storms, so a very active pattern setting up. we're dealing with maybe three or four more storms over the
is taken into custody. welcome to "america live," everyone, i'm megyn kelly. fox news has confirmed that new jersey democrat robert menendez employed an unpaid intern who was not only in this country illegally, but was apparently a registered sex offender. senator menendez says he just learned about the situation this week, but according to the associated press, immigration and customs enforcement, i.c.e., first learned about this intern back in early october. they then notified their superiors at the department of homeland security, and an ap source -- described as an official -- says that the department of homeland security instructed i.c.e. not to arrest this guy until after election day. when contacted by fox news, homeland security denied that allegation that the arrest was delayed until after election day, but clearly this is all just coming to the surface now, and there are questions about why and questions about how it happened in the first place. joining us now, chris stirewalt, our fox news digital politics editor and host of "power play" on live. so we had an

or understanding of motive. can we ever? welcome to "america live", everyone, i'm megyn kelly. at this point we're waiting to hear from the clackamas county authorities. we could soon learn the gunman's identity or information about motive or background at least. we have heard police do not believe this man knew his victims. that he was shooting indiscrimminantly. the shooting sent people in the mall near portland running for their lives. witnesses said the gunman started firing outside of macy's in the food court. one said the gunman practically announced himself with the chilling words, i am the shooter, before he began shooting at random. a series of rapid shots were fired as christmas music played in the background. horrified shoppers leaving scene with their hands up. you can see some of that there as they were escorted out. eerily reminiscent of the tragedy at column bind high school. remember we saw the kids escorted out. one witness said the shooter was warying a bulletproof vest and always protect themselves and carrying a ar-15 rifle. the gun jammed possibly preventing a bigger traged

", i am megyn kelly. the nrdc has issued a groundbreaking proposal to cut pollution in america's power plants, saying that the epa can and should be used. rules for hundreds of existing power plants, bypassing congress altogether. this kind of proposal would obviously have huge economic impact that could spread across the industry that employ hundreds of thousands of americans. the coal industry. chris stirewalt is our digital politics editor and host of power play. this group has emitted this proposal and wants the epa to take control of these admissions in a way that president obama could not get through congress. he submitted his cap and trade proposal when the democrats controlled the house and senate. nancy pelosi got passed in the house. now this group is going to the epa in saying that you just do it, crack down on these admissions yourself. the supreme court has said that you have this power. go for it. the eta said no, for now. reporter: the epa probably wishes that the group had not said so out loud. it is probably not helpful to have outside. the original proposals that the

childers, we are in for megyn kelly. now, the firefighters shot while responding to a fire in weber the, new york. the police chief says two of them were killed at the scene. the other two are being treated at a hospital. gregg: our david lee miller is following this story live from our new york studios. >> reporter: here's the timeline of what happened this morning. it was about 5:35 when they received a call there was a house fire. firemen from the west webster fire department, four in total. the first two of those firemen were shot dead at the scene, two others were seriously hurt. later an off-duty police officer from the nearby town of greece, new york, drove by. the gunfire hit his car. he was apparently injured by the shrapnel. now, as for the shooter, authorities say that he apparently was killed by a gunshot, there was some type after a shootout. police arrived, their fired at the shooter. not clear to what extent, if any, he fired back at the police officers, but we do know that he is now dead. not clear if it was self-inflicted. the police chief for webster new york, gerald p

on this important afternoon at "america live." i am megyn kelly. looking live at sandy hook elementary school at newtown, connecticut. breaking children being led across a parking lot. an expression of terror been across the face of that one little girl in the blue shirt. the mother of the child called in to fox news. jenna: can you tell us what happened inside the school were your daughter was? >> she was in a small class, a reading group. they started hearing bangs and her teacher, which i am so grateful for, there was just a small group. they rushed the kids into the bathroom. they locked the door. they just told the children that it was hammering, and they tried to keep them calm. the next thing that i know, because it's very hard to get a complete story, the next thing i know is that the police came and they were knocking on the door to be let out of the classroom. when they were, they stop laughing blood. one child was covered in blood. i understand that child is safe and was not hurt. it must have been somebody else. megyn: there is a lot of information coming into the newsroom at this
